Universal Tax credits will have a cap. The cap is estimated to be set at £500 per week for a couple and single parent households. The cap will be £350 for single adults with no children. The cap is equivalent to a net salary of £26,000 a year or £35,000 gross salary. I don’t know about you but I don’t know anybody who works for another person who earns £35,000 a year. I think the cap is way too high and won’t encourage the workshy who get all their rents paid to find work. In my opinion the maximum somebody should get on welfare should be no more than the minimum wage.
Some households are even going to be exempt from the cap if they have people on Disability living allowance or Personal Independence payments or Attendance allowance etc.
